I am 64 years old and I had a trimalleolar fracture of my left ankle 3 years ago. After a long recovery, I thought the worst was behind me. About 18 months after the accident, I developed post traumatic osteoarthritis of my left ankle. I tried medication, steroid injections and ended up using a cam boot for almost 6 months since I was unable to put weight on my foot due to the pain. I was referred to Dr. Mittelsteadt to see if I was a candidate for ankle replacement. I had the surgery in March 2023. I am now 7 months post-surgery, have completed physical therapy, am walking up to 4 miles every day (which is something I have not been able to come close to for 3 years). Dr. Mittelsteadt is professional, accessible, and kind. The staff at TCO are great! They are very friendly and accommodating. I am very grateful that I was able to have this replacement done and get my mobility back!

I was greatly impressed with the ankle joint replacement I received from Dr. Mittelsteadt. I had very little pain through the whole procedure and recovery. Dr. Mittelsteadt is the greatest. He was the first of many foot doctors that I’ve seen that actually talked to me. He showed me why I was in pain and told me what he could and offers his help. He talks to me and answers any questions I have. When I have my appointments, he shows up and goes over surgery expectations in detail. He explains what I should be doing to keep my foot healthy. He talks TO me and not AT me. The members of his care team have been a wonderful addition to my care as well. I don’t like doctors, so I know when I find a good one!
