Jonathan M. Cooper, DO

Jonathan M. Cooper, DO, is a board certified and sports medicine fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon with over 20 years of experience specializing in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine in athletes and active patients of all ages, as well as knee and shoulder replacement.  He has expertise with primary and revision complex knee joint injuries, including ACL/PCL/MCL/FCL reconstructions (multiligament knee injuries and dislocations).  His special interests include personalized patient care for joint preservation in the active person, meniscus and articular cartilage injuries, knee alignment (osteotomies), patellar instability, quadriceps and patellar tendon injuries, knee replacement, shoulder instability, rotator cuff tears, acromioclavicular (AC) joint injuries, and shoulder replacement.  Dr. Cooper has authored or co-authored numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks.  He continues to be a leader in his field as an invited lecturer locally, regionally and nationally on numerous sports medicine topics.  Prior to joining TCO, Dr. Cooper was an orthopedic surgeon with HealthPartners and TRIA Orthopaedic Center from 2007-2019. During his time there, Dr. Cooper trained other surgeons as Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellows.

Dr. Cooper’s Perspective and Care Philosophy
Dr. Cooper tries to answer one question for each patient: “What would I do if I were the patient?” Answering this question helps guide his decision making from initial visit through the patient’s recovery whether a surgical or non-surgical treatment plan is chosen.  His care philosophy is rooted in honesty and doing what is right for each individual patient.  “In Minnesota and the Twin Cities, we are fortunate to have so many highly trained and qualified orthopedic surgeons. In his personal time, Dr. Cooper enjoys being out on the water with his wife and daughter along with their dog. He enjoys fishing and the many outdoor seasonal activities that the Great Lakes area has to offer.

Knee care, including ACL/PCL/MCL/FCL ligament reconstruction, meniscus repair, cartilage surgery, patella instability, EXCEL total joint program, minimally invasive knee joint replacement (custom and robotic assisted knee replacement), partial/unicompartmental knee joint replacement, and arthritis
