Blue Ox hockey counts on TCO athletic trainer ahead of playoffs

The Minnesota Blue Ox, a Junior A’ team in the U.S. Premier Hockey League, recently featured the work of Kristen Fosness, ATC, of Twin Cities Orthopedics, who serves as the club’s certified athletic trainer.

TCO has been the Official Sports Medicine Provider for the Blue Ox since the team’s inaugural season in 2017-18. Fosness is in her first season with the Blue Ox.

“Having a small group of 25 is really beneficial because you really get to know the athletes pretty well, and you know the ins and outs and what every specific player needs,” Fosness said. “It helps me treat them better at the end of the day.”

The Blue Ox play their home games at Coon Rapids Ice Center, 2 miles from TCO’s Coon Rapids clinic, and begin the first round of the playoffs there at 1 p.m. Friday against the Rum River Mallards.

“It’s important as 18-, 19-, 20-year-olds with such a physical sport that we ensure and prioritize health and safety,” forward Nick Spolec said. “We’re very thankful for TCO and Kristen that she works so hard and that they work so hard to help us stay healthy and have the best lineup we can have out there.”
