Christopher E. Honstad, MD

What are a few interesting facts that people may not know about you?

I was raised in Chanhassen, Minnesota and attended Chaska High School (before Chanhassen High School was built). I ventured across the country during my medical training but decided there was no better place to raise my family then right here in Carver County.

Why did you go into medicine?

I have always been fascinated by the inner workings of the human body, and one of the things I find most gratifying is working to improve the lives of other people. Both of these attributes blended naturally into an interest in medicine. After taking an anatomy and physiology class in high school, I realized medicine would give me the opportunity to take care of people in a field I was incredibly passionate about.

How did you choose orthopedics?

I chose orthopedics as it’s a perfect blend of investigation and intervention. It provides a challenge to diagnose a problem and then act to solve it. As an orthopedic surgeon, I have the opportunity to restore function and relieve pain in patients. Seeing patients return to enjoying their lives is very rewarding.

What does your dream practice look like?

My dream practice is one that integrates into the community and provides outstanding care for all patients. It is a practice with many team members that come seamlessly together to achieve a common goal of helping people. It is also one that values integrity and provides a positive experience for both patients and caretakers.

What is your care philosophy?

I believe that every patient is unique. It is important to me to understand not only the problem, but the person, and to provide the guidance necessary to determine together what the best treatment is for each individual. Surgery isn’t always the solution to problems and should only be utilized in the right circumstances.

Dr. Honstad will practice at TCO’s Arlington, Chaska, and Waconia locations.
