As a rheumatologist, Dr. Bert’s focus is not only on providing accurate diagnoses and effective treatments, but also treating the whole person, not just the disease. In his practice, Dr. Bert strives to make patients feel comfortable sharing their concerns and asking questions. He works to develop personalized treatment plans that are tailored to individual needs and preferences.
Many rheumatic diseases are chronic conditions that require ongoing management, and Dr. Bert is committed to providing comprehensive care to his patients. This includes not only prescribing medications, treatments and staying up to date with current literature, but also providing education and support to help patients manage their symptoms and achieve the highest quality of life possible.
Dr. Bert received his medical degree from Loyola Stritch School of Medicine – Chicago and then completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Rheumatology Fellowship at the University of Minnesota. He is an assistant professor for the University of Minnesota and am involved in teaching rheumatology fellows.
In his free time, Dr. Bert enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. Mountain biking, backcountry skiing, and playing soccer are all activities that he tries to make time for. Fishing for walleye is also a favorite pastime.
Rheumatology, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, polymyalgia rheumatica, vasculitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, polymyositis, other autoimmune myopathies, scleroderma, Sjogren’s syndrome, Behcet’s syndrome, gout, and pseudogout
Dr. Bert has experience and interest in treating interstitial lung disease secondary to rheumatic diseases such as dermatomyositis/polymyositis.
Dr. Bert does not manage chronic pain, chronic Lyme, long COVID-19, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, hypermobility syndromes, chronic fatigue syndrome (myalgic encephalomyelitis), or non-inflammatory spine problems (degenerative arthritis of the spine, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease). He is able to help establish the diagnosis of fibromyalgia but does not manage it long term.
