Mark Rosen Makes a Winning
Comeback from Knee Pain

After more than 50 years as a sports reporter at WCCO, and current KFAN personality, Mark Rosen knows the importance of staying active. Retirement wasn’t going to change that — and he certainly wasn’t going to let knee pain keep him on the sidelines.

Mark had a successful left knee replacement in 2015, so when his right knee began causing problems, he quickly recognized the signs. After seven to eight months of worsening pain and two cortisone injections that provided only temporary relief, he knew it was time to consider surgery.

Mark pushed through the discomfort so he could enjoy a trip to Europe this past spring. Then he scheduled a total knee replacement at the Orthopedic Institute, a value-based partnership between Twin Cities Orthopedics and Ridgeview that brings together world-class orthopedic expertise, advanced technology, and a specialized care environment.

“It was affecting my quality of life,” Mark said. “Even simple things like going to restaurants or the theater became a concern because I was always worried about whether I’d be able to extend my leg to sit comfortably.”

Following a successful surgery, Mark says his experience at the Orthopedic Institute exceeded expectations.

“The Orthopedic Institute was phenomenal. What stood out to me was how specialized it is. Because it’s focused solely on orthopedics, everyone on the staff is on the same page. From the moment I walked in, everything was smooth, from check-in to discharge,” Mark shared.

“The food was incredible — honestly the best Caesar salad I’ve had in a long time — and the large, spacious room made it easy for my wife and family to visit.”

Just one month after surgery, Mark was already seeing significant progress. He’s returned to driving and is looking forward to getting back to the activities he had gradually avoided because of the pain.

“Quality of life is so important,” Mark said. “I’m looking forward to walking to restaurants and the farmers market with my wife again, traveling without pain, and playing an occasional round of golf — something I’d been avoiding for quite some time because of my knee.”

Today, Mark is focused on what comes next: enjoying (semi) retirement, staying active, and getting back to doing the things he loves — without pain holding him back.
