St. Croix Orthopaedics Welcomes Two Orthopaedic Surgeons

St. Croix Orthopaedics, P.A., (SCO) welcomes two orthopaedic surgeons to the practice in August.  Erik J. Peterson, M.D., will start seeing patients in early August at SCO’s clinics in Wyoming and Maplewood, MN, and in St. Croix Falls, WI.  Jessica M. Downes, M.D., will see patients in Lake Elmo and Woodbury, MN, and Hudson, WI, starting mid-August.“We are fortunate to have Dr. Peterson and Dr. Downes join our practice,” said Melanie Sullivan, Ed.D., CEO at St. Croix Orthopaedics.  “Both surgeons were raised in Minnesota and both have an appreciation for the active, healthy lifestyles this region is known for.  Dr. Peterson was a college-level athlete and Dr. Downes competes in marathons.  Their focus is to help patients improve mobility and remain active in all stages of life. ”
Dr. Peterson received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Chemistry and Spanish from Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, TX, in 2003, a Doctor of Medicine Degree from Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, in 2009, and completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, in 2014.
Dr. Peterson has participated in important research under Jonathan Braman, M.D. at the University of Minnesota, Jennifer MacArthur, M.D. at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, and
Michelle Brios, M.D. at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. He received the Morris and Lee Zuckerman Award for Clinical Proficiency in 2009 and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha in 2008.  He is licensed in Minnesota and Wisconsin.Dr. Peterson enjoys the great outdoors of Minnesota and Wisconsin and besides surgery, he is a skilled finish carpenter.
Dr. Downes received a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Magna cum laude, from the College of St. Benedict, St. Joseph, MN, in 2003, and Doctor of Medicine Degree from Creighton University School of Medicine, Omaha, NE, in 2008. She completed advanced training in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Minnesota, in 2014.
In addition to her university surgery experience, Dr. Downes has provided professional care and training at Gillette Children’s Specialty Care, St. John’s University, Lutheran Social Services, and Camp Courage, all in Minnesota.
Dr. Downes completed a Foot and Ankle Fellowship in 2014 at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and has contributed to important research in a number of areas of orthopaedic concern, continuing as a Primary Investigator. She is licensed in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Dr. Downes enjoys the great outdoors and loves fitness.  She is an avid runner, completing the Walt Disney World, Twin Cities, and Women Rock Marathons. She fuels her busy life with expert home brewing and cooking.
