Difference Maker: Katie J.

When we ask patients and their families about their experience, we often hear it’s the little things that make all the difference.

Every month we recognize a team member who went above and beyond to make a difference in the life of others. Often they did something that, if you asked them, “was no big deal,” or “is just part of their job.” But the truth is, their actions inspired others around them.

As a small token of our appreciation for making our organization a better place, we partnered with local artist Claire Ward to create a one-of-a-kind piece of art featuring an image of the recipient’s choosing.

Today, we’d like to thank Katie J. for being a Difference Maker.

Katie’s Story

As a patient service representative at our Eagan Orthopedic Surgery Center, Katie is the first face patients see when arriving for surgery. The perfect job for someone with Katie’s warm personality.

From her friendly demeanor to her calming presence, Katie is someone who has a knack for making others feel comfortable. Sometimes it’s with a simple smile. Other times, it’s by answering a nervous patient’s questions and making them feel at ease.

Throughout the pandemic, Katie has also been responsible for taking patients’ temperatures and making sure our clinics stay safe by not allowing visitors to accompany patients into the building (with the only exception being compassionate care/elderly & pediatric patients).

Though this restriction is necessary to maintain a COVID-free environment, we realize it can also be difficult for patients and families.

In one instance, a family member was informed of our policy and was not able to enter the building as a visitor. Sensing their frustration, Katie took it upon herself to call that family member, answer all of their questions, and provide a rough timeline of when the surgery would be complete. Thanks to Katie, the family member knew their loved one was in good hands.

Not only did Katie do this without being told, it’s just one small example of the many ways she goes above-and-beyond to deliver the highest quality service to our patients, while being an amazing teammate in the process.

Thank you, Katie, for making a true difference in the lives of others. You inspire us all!
