I am writing to express my appreciation for the outstanding care I received from Dr. Randall Lewis, Orthopedic Surgeon and my entire TCO care team including Libby Witchger, PA. For several years I suffered with serious knee issues from sports injuries and arthritis. Initially Dr. Lewis cared for me using non-surgical options.  Ultimately I decided the optimal option was to replace both knees and Dr. Lewis performed the surgeries. Throughout my care experience both Dr. Lewis and Libby impressed me with the personal and genuine care I received. I always received all the information I needed to make informed and clinically sound care decisions based on all options. My surgeries went so well I am now back to walking the golf course, road biking and hiking the national parks. I simply could not recommend a physician and care team more highly.

After putting up with annoying hip pain for a number of years (with the help of three cortisone injections) I finally did the right thing. I witnessed two good friends make remarkable recoveries after having Direct Anterior Hip replacements performed by Dr. Owen O’Neill. With their encouragement and glowing recommendation of Dr. O’Neill, I had an initial visit in early December, 2015. I am no spring chicken (62) but am physically active. I shared my hope to get through March (ski season) have my hip replaced in early April and be on the golf course by the first of June. Dr. O’Neill’s response: “Good plan-we can do that” so, with one final cortisone shot, I was off to ski in Big Sky, Montana! Unfortunately, I decided to play hockey on a couple of weekends in February which prevented me from ANY activity in March. The date of my surgery couldn’t come soon enough. April 6, 2016- NEW HIP! One night in the hospital, walking with no assistance on day 3, no pain medication by day 7. First round of golf six weeks after surgery, back to walking over thirty miles each week. I look forward to next ski season. Thank you Dr. O’Neill, Jessica, and Alyssa for your care and medical gifts. Truly unbelievable!

Richard D. Olmsted, Ph. D. (Chemical Physics)

In 2012, I had my left shoulder replaced by Dr. Hartman (Type 1). I was diligent in physical therapy and I have 100% use of my shoulder. In 2014, I had my right shoulder replaced by Dr. Hartman (Type 1). It took a bit longer in recovery because it is my dominant shoulder, but diligence in physical therapy has given me 100% use of my shoulder. FANTASTIC!

Dr. Hartman is a graduate of St. Olaf. I am a graduate of Augsburg. I have extended to him my condolences!

I am back again after my second hip replacement with Dr. Brian O’Neill. This is also my second testimonial for him. Although I wasn’t looking for more surgery, I knew my other hip was failing like my right one had done earlier. Once again Dr. O’Neill did an outstanding job. I came home the next day and recovery was a breeze. The pain was gone immediately. His anterior approach makes recovery so much easier. Some of my acquaintances have had the posterior approach and still suffer and hurt. I had my surgery at the Maple Grove Hospital and would also recommend that facility. I highly recommend Dr. O’Neill. Thank you for giving me back the ability to be able to walk and move with ease.

Outstanding bedside care. His staff is equally fantastic. I cannot say enough about my experience with Dr. Olmsted and the carpal tunnel release method he performed via endoscopy instead of open surgery on the hand/wrist. It literally changed my life! I suffered so badly from carpal tunnel that I could not sleep for even an hour straight in any position without numbing, tingling and pain in my hands and wrists. The very night of the surgery on just one hand, I slept like a baby and less than a week later had the other hand done and now I really sleep completely sound rarely waking up at all. The surgery instantly cured the numbing and pain. It is an amazing relief to a very painful condition, and bonus that it is a very easy recovery. I was able to use my hands same day even after surgery, however with caution on pressure and weight. I golfed 6 weeks later with no pain and no issues. If you are contemplating this surgery because of the same symptoms, Dr. Olmsted said to me, “The pain of surgery & recovery is so minimal, almost minute compared to the pain you have living with carpal tunnel.” I could not agree more, or recommend anyone more!

My wife Dottie had three surgeries done on her left wrist by Dr. Marek in recent months along with numerous follow-up visits. I was with her on each one of these visits. Both of us agreed that Dr. Marek was not only very professional in his approach to medical care but he also exhibited a very compassionate attitude toward Dot, explaining the surgeries in great detail and taking time to answer all her questions. The results of the surgeries were exactly what Dr. Marek advised her to expect. Dottie and I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Marek as an orthopedic surgeon.

At age 56, having spent nearly 10 years hobbled by an ugly ankle brace, a fellow beekeeper recommended Dr. Coetzee. I tend to avoid doctors, surgery & even needles like the plague, but Dr. Coetzee convinced me this relatively simple procedure was necessary. He even gave me good odds for success (and no downside) which I appreciated. He graciously managed to fit me in this past winter & even permitted my daughter to hold my hand during early sedation. Using a new technique instead of a bone graft from my hip, was another, less-invasive bonus. The surgery was a total success! I now have no fear of triggering the issue on future hiking trips.

I should have written this sooner. It has been almost a year since my hip replacement surgery and I just wanted to say that Dr. Brian O’Neill did an amazing job. His type of hip replacement (anterior approach) is less invasive and thus, I felt, contributed to a quicker recovery time for me. 3-4 hours after surgery I took a short walk with a walker. I was discharged the next day after my physical therapy and went home using only a cane. I took just two weeks off of work (my decision) and was walking without my cane the second day of work. My hip has been great ever since. I am able to walk 18 holes of golf and couldn’t do that before surgery. Before my decision to have hip surgery I was a 62 year-old man walking like a 92 year-old and now I feel as good as new and often wonder why I waited so long.
I also wanted to mention that his coordinator Bethany and all the staff and nurses at Maple Grove Hospital were fantastic. It was a pleasant experience.
In all I highly recommend Dr. O’Neill, his staff, and Maple Grove Hospital.

Dr. Dick, last summer I came to see you again to see what could possibly be done about my back pain that I’ve had for a number of years. I was tired of physical therapy and all the other things I’ve tried without a lot of success and asked if you could possibly come up with any other ideas short of surgery. I was practically desperate and so tired of the nagging pain. Long story short, you talked me into drinking milk, explaining that taking calcium supplements is not always the most effective way to get calcium. I don’t like milk, so you strongly encouraged me to try almond milk. So starting last summer, I started drinking 1 or 2 large glasses of almond milk a day. After several weeks or months, I started to notice the pain decreasing. Although it is not completely gone, it has decreased a lot, and I think it still is decreasing. And to top it off, I just had my bone density done again, and since a year ago, that is better as well. I did not know bone density could get better. According to the report from my doctor, it increased in my lumbar spine by 2.3% and in my left hip by 1.1%. To me, this is a small miracle! I plan to continue drinking almond milk. I hope that in time, the problem might be completely gone! (The original diagnosis was bulging disk between L4 and L5.) Thank you for such excellent advice!

As an employee of Twin cities Orthopedics I brought my 8 year old daughter to be seen on 05/25/16 for left knee pain & swelling at the Coon Rapids location. I am extremely pleased with the care that she received from Dr. Kruse and all the assisting staff members. You could not get any better service and care before, during, and after than what you get from Dr. Kruse and his staff. He had to drain some fluid out of her left knee and like any 8 year old she was scared of the needle. She kept pulling her left knee away from him so that he could not do the procedure. Finally after 2 attempts the 3rd time was the charm and Dr. Kruse and his team talked her through it and he was able to get the fluid that he needed for testing. As a parent I had questions that he answered & explained everything in detail to me. Dr. Kruse was kind, caring and a very genuine doctor. When we left her appointment yesterday my daughter turned to me and said, “Mom I really liked him and it didn’t even hurt when he put the needle in my knee.” I would recommend Dr. Kruse to anyone.
