Practice Overview

Paul R. Langer, DPM, is a board certified podiatrist who specializes in sports medicine, foot disorders, biomechanics, surgery, and diabetic foot care for healthy aging. He utilizes the newest diagnostic and treatment technologies which include musculoskeletal ultrasound, computerized gait analysis and foot pressure analysis for in-depth biomechanical assessments, as well as Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy, 3D printed foot orthotics and minimally invasive surgical techniques for treatment of injuries. He has lectured at and served on the medical staff of international athletic events including the Boston Marathon and China’s Gobi March. He is a clinical advisor for the American Running Association, and an associate of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is the author of Great Feet for Life: Footcare and Footwear for Healthy Aging and has contributed to three other medical texts and published several articles.

While his initial interest in medicine was sparked by his passion for running and endurance sports, he became inspired by the active lives that many of his patients over age 40 were living. Because he received so many questions about footcare and footwear, he set out to find a good resource to guide his patients on self care, only to find that there wasn’t a resource specifically written for caring for the feet as we age. With that, Dr. Langer spent two years researching and writing Great Feet For Life.

“Our feet provide the foundation for a healthy and active life. Most foot conditions can be treated very effectively.”

In the fall of 2021, Abby’s foot hurt while running during cross country meets. We saw several doctors, including orthopedic ones. She had an MRI also. No one could figure it out and another orthopedic doctor said there is nothing wrong. As a frustrated mom, I called Twin Cities Orthopedics. She had an appointment with Dr. Paul Langer. At her appointment he immediately diagnosed her with the collapsed arch. He prescribed inserts. Wearing the inserts and special exercises helped her recover. This last fall season, her cross country team made it to the Minnesota State Cross Country meet. We will be forever grateful to the care she received and will always recommend them to family and friends!

My son (15 year old) was dealing with lateral foot pain. X-rays showed 5th metatarsal fractures on his right foot, and then they showed on his left foot 1 month later. There was no mechanism of injury, he just started hurting with an increase in summer sporting activities. We saw multiple physicians due to the unusual presentation, as it’s typically only one foot and caused by a traumatic event. Fellow healthcare friends advised me to see Dr. Langer. Immediately, he knew we were dealing with a growth plate issue which had an appearance of fractures on an X-ray, but did not clinically present itself like a fracture. He found why this was happening, evaluated X-ray results appropriately, but also used his clinical judgement and was logical in his diagnosis. Without him, my son would be sitting out of fall sports due to these fractures, which weren’t fractures in the first place! Thank you Dr. Langer. You are the BEST!

My 15-year-old daughter has seen Dr. Langer twice in the past few months for ingrown toenail removal. We appreciate how quickly she was able to be scheduled for both visits. Dr. Langer is a personable, calm and caring doctor. He thoroughly explains the situation and your options. He immediately put my daughter at ease. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Langer to anyone having foot issues!

I met Dr. Langer in early October. He is very patient and empathetic. He listened and answered all questions from my husband and me. He showed us where the problems were on the x-ray. What impressed me the most is the outstanding service by his staff members. A day after seeing Dr. Langer, we had a question and left a voicemail for his assistant, Adam. A staff member called back to let me know that Adam was out of the office today and would get back to me when he returned on Monday. She just wanted to inform me so that I didn’t keep on waiting and wondering. On Monday, Adam returned my phone call first thing in the morning. Overall, I’m very pleased with the excellent service provided by Dr. Langer and the outstanding service of his staff. Their actions demonstrate the high professional practice and total patient care.

I am a 53 year old lifelong athlete. At this stage, I enjoy running, biking, skiing, and cross fit. I was referred to Dr. Langer after several years of periodic severe bilateral Achilles Tendonitis. Any time I would exercise it was incredibly painful and both sides of my foot were swollen and painful to the touch. I gave up running. I underwent 3 shock wave therapies, PT and followed the rest and daily workout regime. After 6 months, I am pain free for the first time in years. I have resumed light running without any pain. Shock wave therapy works.

I have battled turf toe, arthritis in a specific joint and dealt with chronic pain for 18 months. After hearing I might need surgery I visited Dr. Langer and learned my issues are reasonably straightforward to manage and am not in a position where surgery is even a consideration – yay! I like his openness to listen and work with you. His support staff seems cut from the same cloth. He helped me prepare for a trip the following day and gave me confidence on how to limit and manage any pain from walking. I am a now a believer that a podiatrist is the only specialist to visit for foot ails and think I got lucking finding Dr. Langer.

After battling severe plantars fasciitis for close to two years and exercising all remedies, I finally decided to go ahead with the Tenex procedure as recommended by Dr. Langer. Although the first 7 weeks after the surgery I wasn’t allowed to run, after that I slowly began to ramp up my mileage again. Within 3 months of the surgery I was running 60-70 miles a week and 4 months after I was back to 80-100 miles a week. Now, 9 months after, I am able to do all daily life activities plus maintain a high level of mileage. I highly recommend this surgery to anyone battling severe plantars, regardless if you are an athlete or not.
