Quick thinking to help a patient in need

It is our honor to introduce Kate Rizo, an insurance specialist for Minnesota Prosthetics & Orthotics and Twin Cities Orthopedics in Burnsville, who recently received our “You Made a Difference” award for helping a patient in a tough situation.

Kate called a patient to schedule an appointment, but the patient was in a panic. Kate asked what was wrong, and the patient said one of their veins had burst and was bleeding. After talking with the patient, Kate called 911 to get help. Because of Kate’s quick thinking and talking to a 911 operator, help arrived to treat the patient. Kate called a few days later to follow up and found out the patient was doing better.

“There are none more deserving of this award than Kate,” Kate’s supervisor said. “She goes about her day consciously attempting to make a difference, and those around her are the lucky recipients of that difference!”

Let’s get to know more about Kate!

Difference Makers Kate RizoWhat’s your role as insurance specialist?

Kate: I verify insurance coverage for orthotic items and review coverage with patients.

How do you make a difference?

Kate: I love when I can put a smile on someone’s face. I like the idea of paying it forward and helping others; it ends up helping me more.

What’s your favorite thing about working at TCO and MPO?

Kate: I’ve been with MPO and TCO a long time in various positions. Be The Difference did not exist when I started, and I think it is one of the best motivations to make the world a better place. I love the other staff I work with and the growth MPO and TCO have helped me to achieve.

What are your favorite things to do outside of work?

Kate: I enjoy spending time with my family. I love to go for early morning walks with the dogs, camping with my boys and listen to live music.

What’s one place in the continental U.S. you’ve never been where you’d like to travel?

Kate: I’d like to go whale watching off the East Coast. Maine sounds like a beautiful place to visit.

Thank you, Kate! You make a difference!

Twin Cities Orthopedics has been named one of the Top 150 Workplaces for eight consecutive years by the Star Tribune, and one of the main reasons is because of our amazing team members who make a difference every day.
