Difference Maker: Brie D.

When we ask patients and their families about their experience, we often hear it’s the little things that make all the difference.

Every month we recognize a team member who went above and beyond to make a difference in the life of others. Often they did something that, if you asked them, “was no big deal,” or “is just part of their job.” But the truth is, their actions inspired others around them.

As a small token of our appreciation for making our organization a better place, we partnered with local artist Claire Ward to create a one-of-a-kind piece of art featuring an image of the recipient’s choosing.

Today, we’d like to thank Brie D. for being a Difference Maker.

Brie’s Story

Great leaders know when to ask for help.

When needing to determine a patient’s preferred pronoun use (She/He/They), Brie made a sometimes difficult, but important conversation, a comfortable one, by first seeking the advice of her co-workers.

As it turns out, that trust in her teammates paid off.

After constructive dialogue and active listening, Brie was able to determine the best way to approach the conversation with integrity and respect, and the patient was beyond grateful.

Moved by the way Brie handled the situation, the patient wrote an email saying they appreciated the respectful, non-tokenizing approach, especially since they have rarely experienced that in healthcare

All of our employees strive to ‘Be The Difference’ in the lives of patients, and want every patient receiving care to ‘Experience The Difference.’ For Brie, these are more than just words, and the proof is in her actions.
