Adam Michalik, DO, is a board certified, fellowship-trained Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of spine (neck and back) and musculoskeletal conditions. He performs interventional procedures ranging from basic ultrasound-guided and fluoroscopic-guided injections as well as the cutting-edge, minimally invasive treatments such as basivertebral nerve ablation and vertebral augmentation (kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty). Dr. Michalik’s approach is to develop comprehensive treatment plans utilizing conservative and appropriately indicated interventional treatments with the goal of improving pain and achieving the best possible outcomes for his patients.
Dr. Michalik grew up in central Wisconsin and attended the University of St. Thomas, graduating Cum Laude with a major in Health Promotion. He attended Des Moines University for medical school where he graduated with honors (Summa Cum Laude) and was inducted into Sigma Sigma Phi Medical Honor Society. He completed residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Rochester where he served as Chief Resident and was awarded the Sayeeda Zain Innovation Award for outstanding clinical research. During his time in medical school and residency, Dr. Michalik displayed outstanding academic credentials graduating within the top 5% of his class and scoring in the 99%th percentile on all national medical board exams. As a PGY-3 he achieved the highest score in the nation on the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Self-Assessment Exam, which is an annual exam given to all PM&R residents. He subsequently completed an Interventional Spine and Musculoskeletal Medicine Fellowship at the University of Utah, which is accredited by the North American Spine Society. He has published in internationally recognized medical journals such as The Spine Journal and Pain Medicine and has presented his work on a national level.
Previously, Dr. Michalik served on the Patient Safety Committee for the International Pain & Spine Intervention Society where he supported the development and promotion of best practice recommendations to help ensure the safety of patients undergoing interventional spine procedures.
In his free time, he enjoys spending time his with wife and three children, hunting, fishing, downhill skiing and traveling.
