Objective:
To combine evidence-based practice and evaluation pearls in order to enable a sports medicine provider to perform a focused, efficient, and effective evaluation in a high volume environment.

Goals:

  • Identify high yield physical examination tests for the shoulder, hip, and foot.
  • Define factors that contribute to common biomechanical deficits in the shoulder, hip, and foot.
  • Indentify how biomechanical deficits influence injuries in the shoulder, hip, and foot.
  • Practice and implement multidisciplinary orthopedic evaluation techniques for the shoulder, hip, and foot.
  • In a small group develop and present a case study to participants implementing the results from the multidisciplinary evaluation process.

Course Description:
This course will integrate traditional lectures with small group lab activities to help participants develop efficient and relevant evaluation techniques and interventions that will enhance their clinical practice. These techniques will help providers effectively direct care for their athletes. The first half of the course will be a combination of traditional lecture followed by a demonstration of physical exam pearls. During the second half of the program participants will be divided into 3 groups and assigned a subject for evaluation. Each group will perform a Functional Movement Screen and expand on the physician’s physical exam. After combining all evaluation results the group will develop a treatment plan for their given subject. Each group will present their findings to the course participants. This course is intended for providers of all levels of experience.
