Difference Maker: Kelbi M.

When we ask patients and their families about their experience, we often hear it’s the little things that make all the difference.

Every month we recognize a team member who went above and beyond to make a difference in the life of others. Often they did something that, if you asked them, “was no big deal,” or “is just part of their job.” But the truth is, their actions inspired others around them.

As a small token of our appreciation for making our organization a better place, we partnered with local artist Claire Ward to create a one-of-a-kind piece of art featuring an image of the recipient’s choosing.

Today, we’d like to thank Kelbi M. for being a Difference Maker.

Kelbi’s Story

It was a busy Friday afternoon at our Woodbury Orthopedic Urgent Care clinic.

Kelbi, a patient service representative, was greeting patients and taking their temperatures at the door, when she noticed a young, emotional child approaching with his mother.

Breaking a bone can be scary, and Kelbi knew this child was feeling both overwhelmed and frightened, so she quickly sprang into action.

After helping the family check in, and calming the boy’s nerves with her amazing sense of humor, Kelbi learned he was feeling very hungry.

Unfortunately, due to COVID, we no longer have snacks available, but always the innovative thinker, Kelbi came up with a new plan.

Walking over to the child’s mother, Kelbi politely asked permission to purchase dinner for the child herself. Moved by Kelbi’s graciousness, the boy’s mother agreed, and thanked Kelbi profusely.

As the food arrived, the boy’s face lit up when he realized it was for him, and all his worries and fears seemed to wash away. After getting a cast for his arm, the boy left for home with a full stomach – and heart.

Watching this whole situation unfold, Kelbi’s teammates were moved by both her kindness and compassion, and one even said, “Kelbi makes you want to be a better person.”

Thank you, Kelbi, for having a heart of gold and making a true difference in the lives of others. You inspire us all!
