Difference Maker: Kyle H.

When we ask patients and their families about their experience at TCO, we often hear it’s the little things that make all the difference.

Every month we recognize a team member who went above and beyond to make a difference in the life of a patient. Often they did something that, if you asked them, “was no big deal,” or “is just part of their job.” But the truth is, their actions inspired others around them.

As a small token of our appreciation for making TCO a better place, we partnered with local artist Claire Ward to create a one-of-a-kind piece of art featuring an image of the recipient’s choosing.

Today we’d like to thank Kyle (pictured with his daughter) for being a Difference Maker.

Kyle’s Story

Kyle is someone who can solve problems quickly and innovatively, and his ability to rise to the challenge made all the difference with a patient desperate for help.

Frustrated with the fit and comfort level of his immobilizer (a device that keeps a body part stable) and unable to find a new one his size, Kyle’s patient tried to take matters into his own hands. By placing a bi-fold wallet over the top edge of the immobilizer, the patient was able to relieve some of the discomfort caused by the metal pieces breaking through the seams. However, the patient wasn’t able to find a solution for the bottom edge.

Kyle though, was up to the challenge and assured the patient he could fix the problem. Reluctantly, the patient rolled his eyes and agreed to let Kyle give it a shot.

In just a few short minutes, Kyle came back into the room and presented the patient with the fixed immobilizer. Using a sewn piece of heavy-duty material over the top and bottom edges, Kyle was able to prevent the metal pieces from ever coming loose again.

Thanks to Kyle’s quick thinking and innovation, the patient left happy, comfortable and truly grateful.

Our patients’ satisfaction is something TCO takes very seriously, and Kyle is a prime example of going above and beyond to ensure every patient receives the care they deserve.
