Difference Maker: Nathan A.
When we ask patients and their families about their experience at TCO, we often hear it’s the little things that make all the difference.
Every month we recognize a team member who went above and beyond to make a difference in the life of a patient. Often they did something that, if you asked them, “was no big deal,” or “is just part of their job.” But the truth is, their actions inspired others around them.
As a small token of our appreciation for making TCO a better place, we partnered with local artist Claire Ward to create a one-of-a-kind piece of art featuring an image of the recipient’s choosing.
Today, we’d like to thank Nathan (pictured with his girlfriend) for being a Difference Maker.
Nathan’s Story
Nearly five hours after his shift was supposed to end, Nathan was still hard at work.
As the scheduled late nurse, Nathan began the day believing he’d be finished by 6:30 p.m., but when a patient in need required extra care, he went above-and-beyond the call of duty to provide the highest quality of service.
Known for his integrity, it came as no surprise that Nathan would do all of the right things for a patient having a tough time.
Already affected by a non-functioning limb, this particular patient had also just had shoulder surgery, leaving them with no arm use. Using his physical strength and positive attitude, Nathan assisted this patient in the bathroom by holding them up and treating them with dignity and respect.
In addition, Nathan ensured that all of the patient’s other wants and needs (as well as their families’) were addressed, creating an overwhelmingly positive experience and allowing this patient to be safely discharged.
At TCO, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional teamwork. Through his committed effort and skillful execution, Nathan was an inspiration to the late nurse he worked alongside and also left them grateful to have him as a co-worker.
