TCO Minneapolis – Therapy Now Open

Twin Cities Orthopedics has partnered with Minnesota Dance Theatre (MDT) to open our first Dance Medicine specific location, TCO Minneapolis – Therapy.

In the heart of the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood, right near downtown and the University of Minnesota, this specialized physical therapy location will be open to dancers around the metro and greater Minnesota, regardless of their dance genre, company, or experience level.

Having danced professionally for 15+ year at the American Ballet Theatre in New York City, MDT’s Artistic Director Lauren Post knows the importance of combining dance training with specialized sports medicine. She envisioned a holistic environment where dancers could train, recover, and improve their technique under the world-renowned coaching from MDT’s dance faculty, as well as the expertise from TCO’s physical therapists.

With more than 20 years of dedicated Dance Medicine experience, TCO has long been a trusted resource for dancers seeking specialized care. Led by TCO Dance Medicine specialists Dr. Brad R. Moser and Physical Therapist Maryann Johnson, this new location reduces barriers to care, encourages early injury prevention, and normalizes strength, conditioning, and physical therapy as critical parts of a dancer’s training.

“We’re coming together to create a place for dancers to feel like they are truly understood in the medical field,” said Dr. Moser. “We’re able to give dancers the best, most specific care for them.”

“Understanding dance culture is important. It is different from sports culture. A dancer is an artist and an athlete,” said Johnson, PT. “I look at alignment, where they are tight or weak, and give them ways to find stability in every movement. That work goes beyond dance genre or style. It’s about finding why certain movements create tension.”

As its mission states, MDT is dedicated to inspiring the next generation of classical and contemporary dancers through exceptional, inclusive training and performance opportunities. This TCO location is a big step forward for the mission, supporting dancers with the care they need to perform their best.

When asked about her vision for the future of the TCO location, Johnson, PT said, “I want dancers to feel confident seeking care, and I want to give the knowledge I’ve built over 40 years to the next generation of Dance Medicine therapists. Together, we can create an enduring, ongoing clinic for the dance community.”
