Kristin S.

Kristin S. had persistent foot pain for over 23 years, which made walking long distances difficult. Pictured in Israel, she was grateful to be able to appreciate her second trip to the country pain-free, unlike her first. “After having surgery on my feet [with Scott McGarvey, MD], I was able to enjoy the trip so much more,” she said. Being able to keep up with the group and focus on all there was to see and learn, rather than being distracted by her foot pain helped make the trip a great experience, she said. “I am able to walk without pain for the first time in 23 years. Dr. McGarvey was wonderful to work with and his work on my feet has changed my life,” said Kristin.

Gordon R.

For many years, Gordon suffered from extreme pain in his ankle caused by osteoarthritis. After researching foot and ankle surgeons and getting a recommendation from a friend, he met with Scott McGarvey, MD. With a round trip to the clinic of 400 miles, it was important for Gordon to schedule an appointment that he could drive to and back from on the same day. “I was always able to get in to see him on time with little or no waiting,” he said. Gordon described the examination he received from Dr. McGarvey as very thorough. “He took time to listen to the concerns both my wife and I had. He was honest and articulated all my options in an understandable manner,” he said. After discussing treatment options with Dr. McGarvey, Gordon opted to proceed with a total ankle replacement and couldn’t be happier with the results. “Dr. McGarvey’s follow-up after the surgery was second to none. He is truly a patient advocate. He took special care to make sure my recovery was going well; calling to check on my progress,” said Gordon. “Dr. McGarvey surrounds himself with a competent, professional, and friendly staff,” he said. “I do not hesitate to recommend him to anyone with issues of the foot and ankle.”

Diana T.

In addition to living with rheumatoid arthritis for over 30 years, Diana dealt with an ankle that would suddenly “give out” for several years. She feared falling as a result of the ankle issues, which could have resulted in a more serious injury. Her rheumatologist recommended a total ankle replacement – an option Diana didn’t know existed. After being referred to Scott McGarvey, MD, she traveled over 300 miles to consult with him. Prior to the ankle replacement procedure, Dr. McGarvey performed reconstructive surgery on both of Diana’s feet. A year later, she had her ankle replaced. After following Dr. McGarvey’s post-operative instructions and completing physical therapy, Diana explained that she is extremely pleased with the results. “I thank Dr. McGarvey and his staff for their fine treatment,” she said. Diana said that she “was treated with professional, kindness, respect, and even some humor,” and knows that is the standard for patients of Dr. McGarvey.

Everyone was willing to take the time to address any concerns,” she said. “I’ll be telling everyone where they should go for their orthopedic concerns.”

Marlys T.

Marlys T.

With the help of Chris Coetzee, MD and Brad Moser, MD, Marlys T. was able to climb the highest free standing mountain in the world, Mt. Kilimananjaro. She visited Twin Cities Orthopedics Edina for foot pain that was bothering her just weeks before the climb. Marlys explained that “after Dr. Moser gave me the ‘okay’ to climb, I only had ten days to prepare.” This involved training and shopping for gear. “Most people train for months” for such a climb, she said. “The extent of my training was a few times on the stair master and two six mile walks.” Marlys hiked the Machame trek, the second most difficult of six treks. “I did not have any pain in my body until the very last day after I descended when my knees ached slightly,” she said.

Roger J.

Roger (pictured on left) was suffering from pain in his hip when climbing stairs, walking, and sitting for longer than 10 minutes. During his appointment with Michael Nemanich, MD (pictured on right), he and Roger discussed a total hip replacement. “Both my wife and I were struck by his humbleness and patient centric approach,” he said.“The day after surgery I was able to pass the physical therapists requirement for discharge and five days after surgery I no longer needed any aid to walk,” said Roger. “Dr. Nemanich and his staff have given me a quality of life back I wasn’t sure I could have.”

Shawn W.

Before his surgery with Clare McCarthy, MD (pictured on right), Shawn (pictured in middle) had suffered from severe pain in his right wrist and also had trouble with his left thumb for over 20 years. “I couldn’t sleep at night and it was affecting my quality of life,” he said. As an avid outdoorsman, it was also preventing him from doing the things he enjoyed. “I met with Dr. McCarthy and her confidence in the procedures she was going to perform won me over,” he said. Shawn described the care he received after surgery from Dr. McCarthy and Claire Joubert, PA-C (pictured on left) as outstanding and is now pain free in for the first time in over 20 years. “It is truly amazing the work that was performed and the outcome is more than I could have imagined. I can’t thank Dr. McCarthy and Claire Joubert enough for the wonderful work they did on me and their care and professionalism truly makes me glad that I was in their care,” he said.

Kerry H.

It only took a month for Kerry H. to return to the links after his total replacement with Andrew F. Arthur, MD. He was pain-free and playing better than ever. “Within the next week I had walked three 18-hole rounds,” he said. “My handicap has dropped from 20 to 14 this summer.” Not only that, but he hit a hole in one (pictured). “How could I be more delighted?” he said.
