Thank you to Dr. Olmsted and Team for your work on my VERY arthritic finger joint! At now just over four weeks, my joint replacement feels good, moves well and I am finally typing, crocheting and writing comfortably again! At 51 years old I wasn’t ready to give in to stiffness and pain and your work is exceptional. Best thing I did in 2014!! You guys rock.

Four years ago, in November 2010, I fell off a ladder and fractured both of my ankles.  The emergency room doctor told me my ankles were severely broken or more specifically they were “bi-lateral pilon” fractures.  The doctor described the fractured ankles as “impressive” (or doctorese as terrible breaks but repairable).  The doctor further explained that a pilon fracture is where the break is caused by vertical pressure similar to stepping on a pop can from the top and causing the bones to be crushed.  But, my original orthopedic surgeon “patched” me up with 4 plates and 30 screws and restored my ability to walk again.  But the loss of the cartilage in my ankle joints caused me to hobble through life.  In addition the loss of the range of motion in my ankle restricted the distances and the pace that I could travel.

Prior to my accident, I was active with a keen sense of adventure.  My wife and I love to travel and have a special love for the area north of Ely, MN known as the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW).  Although following the accident, my mantra was “Staying home is not an option…”, but I now had physical limits to what I could achieve.

As it turned out, the brother of a dear friend recently had ankle replacement surgery performed by Dr. Coetzee.  She gave glowing reports of how his life had returned to normal following his surgery and how he resumed his passion for long distance bike rides.  So, on July 5th, 2012, I hobbled into Twin Cities Orthopedics with my wife to meet with Dr. Coetzee.  After what seemed like a “bazillion” questions, we agreed to schedule surgery to replace my right ankle in September 2012 followed by surgery to replace my left ankle in March 2013.

Day by day, step by step, PT by PT my ability to walk returned and the hobble was replaced with a normal gait!  …and best of all, I could now resume my sense of adventure and travel.  Although I understood that I still needed to make wise decisions about which adventures to choose.

To illustrate how far I have come, here is a photograph of me hiking the Path of the Gods trail (Sentiero Degli Dei) that is located on the Amalfi coast just east of Positano Italy with my wife and special friends.  The section of the trail that we hiked was moderately rugged along a 4 mile path 1500 feet above the Bay of Salerno with sweeping views of the Amalfi coast.  Jaw dropping beautiful!  The island of Capri is visible 15 miles away.  Experiencing this “bucket list” adventure was only possible with my new ankles.

Every day and every step is a blessing and a miracle…so much to be thankful for!

Going into my TKR I was nervous but could barely walk and desperately needed the surgery. Dr. Lewis and Libby were fabulous! I had no swelling or bruising and was up and walking around pretty independently by the end of second day. I totally love these two as I have gotten my life back….I can walk again!! Thank you!!

After talking with 2 other Dr’s, I met Dr. Owen O’Neill and instantly felt I had the right fit for me. Now just under a month after a hip replacement, I cannot recommend Dr. O’Neill and his staff enough. My wife said it best when we went to the pre-op class “You couldn’t possibly be in better hands”. As a 36 year old who wants to get the most mileage out of this I needed to find someone I was comfortable with and trusted to do what was best for me. I amazed day by day at the progress. Bottom line: If you are looking for someone that is truly passionate about helping people from the first conversation to the post surgery recovery, I honestly don’t believe you can find a better person to work with. Sit down and talk with him and see for yourself.

First off – top notch. I was recommended to Dr. Conner by my personal physician and that referral didn’t disappoint. The whole staff at TCO was impeccable and humorous…a key for helping all people relax and be normal. Dr. Conner was calm, informative and descriptive on what needed to be done. I was assured the process was easy and that it would be painful…honesty is another great trait to have. Great job TCO and thank you Dr. Conner for extending a lot of who you are into what you do – it shows. Thank you.

I cannot express how good of a physician Dr. Gesensway is. He is very compassionate and understanding. He puts you at ease and explains the procedure thoroughly. I would highly recommend him. He is truly an outstanding surgeon. The staff was also kind and outstanding. I felt so safe in their hands.

Dr. O’Keefe did an excellent job of repairing my broken elbow that resulted from a bicycle accident. The follow up was appropriate. I completed occupational therapy at Twin Cities Orthopedics with good results.

Dr. Diekmann is the only choice for me and my family when it comes to needing help with bone & muscle problems. He has served us very well for well over 20 years. I could go on with many details but just want people to know that this is a Dr. that will care for you very well.

Thank you for the opportunity to give you my comment on my procedures. The results of my new hips could not have been better. North Memorial, all of the nurses, and Dr. Brian O’Neill were the best. Both times, my progress in healing was so fast, after 12 to 14 days I was walking without even a cane. I never took the pain medication because I never needed them. My hips were one year apart and the second one was about a year and a half ago. I have been pain free, no problems at all. So again, I thank all those involved in resolving me to a pain free life. My wife has two new knees and our daughter has a new hip with the same results from Dr. Brian O’Neill. We couldn’t be more pleased. Thank you all.

Twice Dr. Brian O’Neill has given me a new life. In 2003 he performed my knee surgery and in 2014 he performed my hip surgery. Each time I was what I was calling “given the miracle of walking again.” Each surgery turned out to be so successful. Thank you Dr. O’Neill. I would refer him to everyone who is in need of surgery. Thank you for allowing me to share.
