Jeffrey F. Klassen, MD
What is an interesting fact that people may not know about you?
I am an avid outdoorsman, spending much of my free time hunting and fishing. I also love to ski and cycle. Cooking is one of my life-long passions. My favorite sport is hockey. I was the team physician for the University of Minnesota Duluth men’s hockey team and have been fortunate to be a part of 3 NCAA National Championships. I spent my early childhood growing up in Tunis, Tunisia, where my father helped to develop a pediatric orthopedic hospital under the auspices of CARE.
Why did you go into medicine?
I have been interested in being a doctor since I was a kid. I was always the doctor when we played “cops and robbers.” My father practiced medicine, and I was always curious about his work.
How did you choose orthopedics?
My father was an orthopedic surgeon which introduced me to this specialty. In high school and college, I was fortunate to get a job with the Mayo Clinic working as an assistant in the operating rooms and was able to work in the various surgical specialties. I found orthopedics to be the most interesting area and pursued my career from there.
What is your care philosophy?
The patient always comes first. I have always approached my practice with a, “Just say yes” policy. If a patient requests to be seen or a provider would like to refer a patient, I work to meet their timeline.
What is your favorite quote?
“No one is big enough to be independent of others.” – Dr. William Worrall Mayo
Dr. Klassen will practice at TCO’s Edina – Crosstown location.
