Marlys T.

Marlys T.

With the help of Chris Coetzee, MD and Brad Moser, MD, Marlys T. was able to climb the highest free standing mountain in the world, Mt. Kilimananjaro. She visited Twin Cities Orthopedics Edina for foot pain that was bothering her just weeks before the climb. Marlys explained that “after Dr. Moser gave me the ‘okay’ to climb, I only had ten days to prepare.” This involved training and shopping for gear. “Most people train for months” for such a climb, she said. “The extent of my training was a few times on the stair master and two six mile walks.” Marlys hiked the Machame trek, the second most difficult of six treks. “I did not have any pain in my body until the very last day after I descended when my knees ached slightly,” she said.

Roger J.

Roger (pictured on left) was suffering from pain in his hip when climbing stairs, walking, and sitting for longer than 10 minutes. During his appointment with Michael Nemanich, MD (pictured on right), he and Roger discussed a total hip replacement. “Both my wife and I were struck by his humbleness and patient centric approach,” he said.“The day after surgery I was able to pass the physical therapists requirement for discharge and five days after surgery I no longer needed any aid to walk,” said Roger. “Dr. Nemanich and his staff have given me a quality of life back I wasn’t sure I could have.”

Shawn W.

Before his surgery with Clare McCarthy, MD (pictured on right), Shawn (pictured in middle) had suffered from severe pain in his right wrist and also had trouble with his left thumb for over 20 years. “I couldn’t sleep at night and it was affecting my quality of life,” he said. As an avid outdoorsman, it was also preventing him from doing the things he enjoyed. “I met with Dr. McCarthy and her confidence in the procedures she was going to perform won me over,” he said. Shawn described the care he received after surgery from Dr. McCarthy and Claire Joubert, PA-C (pictured on left) as outstanding and is now pain free in for the first time in over 20 years. “It is truly amazing the work that was performed and the outcome is more than I could have imagined. I can’t thank Dr. McCarthy and Claire Joubert enough for the wonderful work they did on me and their care and professionalism truly makes me glad that I was in their care,” he said.

Sharelle P.

Sharelle P. (pictured on left) had a total knee replacement performed by Dr. O’Neill (pictured) as a part of the EXCEL program at Twin Cities Orthopedics. The program’s focus of providing an all-encompassing patient experience helped her make a rapid recovery from surgery. “I had confidence in my knee right away,” she said. “I haven’t really had any pain and am able to do things I haven’t done in years.”Excel, which debuted in June of 2012, provides patients with coordinated care from day one to full recovery with personalized service from their surgeon and a nurse practitioner. This includes an orthopedic recovery suite that offers specialized orthopedic care, with 24-hour RN care, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy. “The environment was much more comfortable than the hospital,” said Sharelle. “I was there because I was recovering and not because I was sick.”As a part of that coordinated care patients attend Excel Camp, a class that prepares them for surgery and introduces them to the staff they will be in contact with before and after the procedure. “They explained every step of the process in great detail and answered every question I had,” said Sharelle. “I was very well prepared for what was to come.”In addition to preparing Sharelle for her surgery and recovery, the friendliness of the Excel staff helped put her at ease throughout the entire experience. “From the person who greeted me at 5:30 a.m. to the person that rolled me out to my car” the staff was outstanding, she said. Throughout her recovery in the private orthopedic suite, Sharelle said she “quickly received assistance when needed” and “saw my surgeon everyday that I was there.”

Mike O.

In October/November 1996, Dr. Owen O’Neill performed reconstructive surgery on my right knee for a completely torn ACL and partially torn Meniscus. Dr. O’Neill’s professionalism was second to none and the results of the surgery speak for themselves. In 2003 at the age of 37 I entered the profession of Law Enforcement. I passed all the physical demands of the academy, have served 4 years on a SWAT team to include hundreds of hours of physically demanding training and countless real life situations. I have passed multiple physical fitness tests in my 11 years of law enforcement and my knee has stayed strong through it all as well as injury free. I run 2+ miles a day 4-5 days a week and do strength training on my legs without any issues. Thank you, Dr. O’Neill.

Elaine O.

I was having terrible hip pain when I first saw Dr. O’Neill. He diagnosed me with bone on bone osteoarthritis in my right hip and told me I needed a complete hip replacement surgery. I had the direct anterior surgery on May 14, 2012. I can’t believe how fast I recovered. I was back to square dancing five weeks after the surgery. I didn’t use my walker after two weeks, nor a cane after three weeks. There was no need for any physical therapy or exercises. Before surgery, I could no longer sit on the floor, square dance, go shopping for groceries, walk up or down the basement steps to do laundry. I am so thankful Dr. Foley from Fairview referred me to Dr. O’Neill. I didn’t know that this direct anterior surgery was even available. I was soooo fortunate to have found Dr. O’Neill and his assistant, Jessie. I have already referred at least two other people to them.

I would recommend Dr. O’Neill and his staff to everyone considering having a hip replacement. I also would definitely recommend the Direct Anterior Hip Replacement procedure! The hip pain is GONE!
