Dr. Steven Meisterling,

Deepest thanks for the surgery and counseling my right knee, both in 2009 and this year. I’m resuming a normal life due to your skill and dedication. To say that I”m grateful would be a huge understatement. I’m extremely lucky for your expertise, counseling, and dedication to healing.

I completed physical therapy this week at TCO Stillwater and am moving normally and comfortably. Physical therapists Tim Hafemeyer and Kristine Sicora are expert “coaches” and counselors  Ms. Sicora happened to be my PT at OSI following your surgery on my knee in 2009. I could not have asked for better treatment. They’ve given me suggestions for further work on my own.

Both the clinical team and the administrative team are excellent. Please extend them my appreciation.

Great work, Doc! And thanks again.

I was very pleased with my recent total knee replacement. My options were discussed in easy to understand terms, what to expect during and after surgery, its risks, and all my questions were answered. I was totally at ease going into this surgery and had faith in Dr. Moen. His assistant Steph made herself available for my silly questions, and refilled my prescriptions immediately, going the extra mile. I attended the two hour pre surgery class and would recommend it to anyone considering knee surgery. I followed the three week pre-surgery exercises to the letter. My recovery at home was easy, pain free, and I was weaned from my pain medicine within two weeks. I am back to doing everything I need to do, pain free. I am so happy.

My mother broke her left hip a few months ago. It was suggested by Dr. Wood that my mother should have surgery on her left hip. She is 87 years old and very precious to all of us. Dr. Wood was the most caring patient Doctor I’ve ever come across. She reassured my mother about the surgery and talked to her a few times about it also. She was in great hands and we couldn’t be more appreciative of the excellent care that Dr. Wood and her team gave my mother. Thanks SO very much!

I saw Dr. Norberg on Oct. 24, 2018 one year after my reverse shoulder replacement surgery. I am extremely happy with the results. I have no pain and have regained most of my prior mobility. I very much appreciate the fine manner that Dr. Norberg has when dealing with me as a patient.

I met with Dr. Deal on June 20th for a lower back pain assessment. Followed it up a week later after he was able to review an MRI which indicated spinal stenosis in the L2-L4 area. I had been in pain for several months and had an epidural injection that gave me minor relief of my symptoms. We were able to schedule surgery within a couple weeks of the diagnosis which was performed on an outpatient basis at Minnesota Valley Surgery Center in Burnsville. Dr. Deal’s Care Coordinator, Alyssa, was very helpful in answering my questions or getting the answers from Dr. Deal. I had relatively little pain and within 4 days was off heavy pain meds. Had a 2-week follow up appointment with Dr. Deal and I was able to walk and/or bicycle as much as I wanted. I am out 3 months from surgery and could not be more impressed with how this all turned out. I only wish I had gone in earlier to see Dr. Deal. I have and would highly recommend him.

Dr. Owen O’Neill:

I had my left knee replace on October 19, 2016. Recovery of the strength in the knee went according to the expected timetable of the therapy group at Twin Cities Orthopedics except for stretching the Hamstring and Calf muscles.

Because I had played tennis with pain and a bent knee for 15 years, the muscles wouldn’t stretch out to less than 6 degrees. You then recommended a Dynaflex brace to wear 6 hours a day (3 in the morning and 3 in the evening) for 7 weeks. With tightening this this brace each week, it said that improvement would be 1 degree per week.  After 7 weeks, my left knee was at -1 degree.

I stretch and exercise every day and it has helped improve my tennis game. Before my operation, I played doubles with a group of 12 people.  I was about in the middle of the pack playing with pain and couldn’t run.

With my new knee, my game has improved to where I am now at the top of the pack by about 20%. I can outrun most in my group and have full flexibility. I wish I would have done this 15 years ago.

Thanks for your operational expertise.

Dear Justina,

I am a big fan of TCO/EXCEL! I couldn’t be happier with my care from TCO & the Excel program.

The decision to move ahead with a knee replacement wasn’t easy for me. I had knee surgery years ago and it wasn’t a great experience. You all took the time to listen and to make me feel valued and respected, treating me as you would want to be treated. Kudo’s to all.

Dr. John Anderson showed great care and concern and his put me at ease. I was always confident that I had selected a great Doctor. Thomas Gendron, Dr. Anderson’s Surgical Assistant, was a great help thru postop and always available for calls. Sue Vaness, Care Coordinator kept all the moving parts on track for me and made it as easy as can be.

I remember Erin & Kathy 2 great nurses in the recovery room with chapstick necklaces. I’m sorry for pulling out my intravenous line; I thought I was being stung by a bee.

And certainly the folks over at EXCEL, Marni G, Joint Coordinator and the fabulous nurses Donica, Alicia, Ashley E., Mimi & Jennifer and of course Laura my first Physical Therapist who got me started on the right track. You guys cheerfully took great care of me!

My recovery has been fantastic. I started PT right away, stretching and strengthening my leg.

At 5 weeks I was back at Yoga class 4 days a week and at the gym working the legs.

At about 4 month’s things started to feel almost normal.

At about 5 months, May/ June and was back on my bicycle doing 20 mile rides a few times a week

At about 9 months it seemed the strength in my right leg was about 75% back as was the flexibility. And now at 18 months Post Op I feel great and strong and flexible. Last month I went hiking in the Colorado Rockies.

I don’t really notice that I have a knee replacement.

When I went in for my pre-op consult with Dr. Anderson he explained the procedure and he told me that I would probably never be able to do a “Catchers Squat” (like a Baseball Catcher) again. In Yoga it’s called Malasana. At my 4 month checkup I showed him a “good” Malasana, Now at 18 months I have a great Malasana, better than Pre Op.

I’m very grateful for all your great care.

My first experience with Dr. Saterbak was in 1999 for the repair of my left ACL. We crossed paths again in 2005 for a right ACL. In the meantime, the progression of osteoarthritis was being monitored in my left knee. I had gone through medications and variable injection treatments. I felt I had come to the end of the road in the fall of 2016 with the amount of pain persisting in my left knee. At that time, a visit to Dr. Saterbak resulted in an appointment to thoroughly investigate the possibility of a total knee replacement. All evidence pointed to that procedure and it was then scheduled for March 2017.

The whole procedure was to be performed as part of TCO’s EXCEL Program. The intro to final PT program that covered all aspects of the replacement and lifted concerns of outcomes.

Blue Cross Blue Shield had no issues with the funding. That was huge! Additionally, I felt as though I was number 1 on the list with the work that went into my case – the pre-op, surgery, post-op, follow-ups and PT.

Count me as a satisfied consumer of the program.

I had a very positive experience with Twin Cities Orthopedics covering the period of time from urgent care to rehabilitation. I had the injury on a Saturday and requested that I might get my surgery scheduled as soon as possible with one of the most skilled and proficient arm and elbow staff surgeons there. They accommodated me quickly and on the Tuesday after, Dr. Bakker was recommended as my surgeon and he fit me into his schedule. He presents himself with very good communication skills and organization of procedures. It is about two months out, my surgery site is healing well and I thank him and his staff so much for their prompt and excellent care!
