13 TCO PHYSICIANS NAMED MINNESOTA MONTHLY’S 2023 TOP DOCTORS
Congratulations to the 13 Twin Cities Orthopedics physicians named to Minnesota Monthly’s 2023 Top Doctors list. The magazine’s annual list recognizes peer-nominated physicians who demonstrate medical excellence in our community.
Adam J. Bakker, MD – Dr. Bakker is a board certified and Mayo Clinic hand surgery fellowship-trained surgeon who specializes in surgical and nonsurgical treatment of the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder. He focuses on conditions of the hand and upper extremities including minimally invasive treatment options for Dupuytren’s contractures and carpal tunnel syndrome, hand and upper extremity fracture care, arthroscopy, tendon and ligament injuries, upper extremity joint replacements, and microsurgery. He also has an active interest in international orthopedic care to underserved regions.
Paul M. Cammack, MD – Dr. Cammack is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who specializes in foot and ankle surgery. His interests include complex deformity correction, sports medicine, ankle arthroscopy, arthritis including ankle replacement, and foot and ankle trauma.
Chris Coetzee, MD – Dr. Coetzee is a board-certified fellowship trained foot and ankle surgeon with special orthopedic interests in foot and ankle reconstruction, trauma injuries and sports medicine. He is a past President of the American Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS). He is a reviewer for the Foot and Ankle International Journal, as well as the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and several other orthopedic journals. Dr. Coetzee is also one of the Official Team Physicians for the Minnesota Vikings and travels with the team.
Charles Eggert, MD – Dr. Eggert is a sports medicine fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who specializes in arthroscopic reconstruction of the knee, hip, and shoulder. He also performs total joint replacement and fracture care. His special interest is in the care of athletes, including ACL reconstruction, shoulder instability, and arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.
David Gesensway, MD – Dr. Gesensway has enjoyed practicing specialized, patient-centered hand care for over 30 years. He helps people of all ages understand their hand, wrist, forearm, or elbow conditions, and assists them in choosing personalized treatment. In 2024, Dr. Gesensway will be treating patients at Lakewood Health System in Staples, MN, a TCO outreach service location.
Christie S. Heikes, MD – Dr. Heikes is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and fellowship trained in sports medicine. Her surgical interests focus on athletic injuries including knee arthroscopy, minimally invasive ACL reconstruction, revision ACL reconstruction, meniscal surgery, pediatric sports medicine, and disorders of the patellofemoral (knee cap) joint. Dr. Heikes also serves as the Team Physician for several club gymnastic teams, local high schools, St. Catherine University, and Aurora FC.
Laura D. Koch, MD – Dr. Koch specializes in orthopedic hand surgery and has a certificate of added qualification in hand surgery from the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. She has been a practicing hand surgeon in the Twin Cities for 20 years. Prior to joining Twin Cities Orthopedics, she served four years in the U.S. Air Force at David Grant Medicine Center, Travis Air Force Base, in California.
Christopher M. Larson, MD – Dr. Larson is a fellowship-trained orthopedic sports medicine surgeon who specializes in cutting edge techniques for ACL reconstruction, meniscal repair, hip arthroscopy, FAI surgery and hip labral repair, proximal hamstring repair, hip abductor tendon repair, and exertional compartment syndrome in athletes. Dr. Larson has extensive experience with high school, collegiate, and professional athletes and provides coverage for several sports teams. He is currently the Head Team Physician for the Minnesota Vikings.
Clare K. McCarthy, MD – Dr. McCarthy is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with a fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity and a certificate of added qualification (CAQ) in hand, wrist and elbow surgery. She specializes in surgery of the hand and upper extremity, with procedures including tendon and nerve repairs, basal thumb joint replacement and rheumatoid hand reconstructions. She also treats fractures, nerve and tendon conditions, and arthritis of the wrist and fingers.
Amy T. Moeller, MD – Dr. Moeller is a hand fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon with subspecialty certification in surgery of the hand. She treats patients of all ages, including young children, for elbow, wrist, and hand concerns. She is dedicated to providing individualized care for each patient, utilizing the latest techniques and treatments to help them achieve their desired outcomes.
Stephen L. Olmsted, MD – Dr. Olmsted has practiced orthopedics for over 20 years and provides specialty care for injuries and conditions of the hand, wrist, and elbow. Dr. Olmsted is fellowship trained in hand and upper extremity. He cares for patients of all ages from young children to adults, providing individualized care to achieve maximum recovery and function.
David E. Olson, MD – Dr. Olson is a primary care sports medicine physician specializing in a wide range of sports medicine concerns, including the diagnosis and management of concussions and acute and chronic musculoskeletal issues. Dr. Olson is an experienced sports medicine physician who has worked with various levels of athletes, from professional/elite athletes to weekend warriors. He serves as a Team Physician for the Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Twins, US Soccer, Roseville High School and is the Medical Director for the University of St. Thomas.
Owen R. O’Neill, MD – Dr. O’Neill has been in practice for over 27 years and has performed thousands of joint surgeries. He trained at Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins University, where he completed a Fellowship. His expertise is hip and knee joint reconstruction and is one of the most experienced surgeons in Minnesota in the minimally invasive direct anterior hip replacement, having performed over 3,500 of this procedure. He has also performed over 6,000 knee replacements and specializes in minimally invasive, as well as no-tourniquet techniques.
