I had the best experience and treatment with Dr. Asp and his team through the TCO EXCEL program. I had my right knee replacement surgery on March 8, 2021. I did just as I was asked, which included pre-op and post-op exercises, along with physical therapy. I healed very fast it. I was driving within in 3 weeks and am now biking, walking, and my knee feels great. It really helps to have a great surgeon like Dr. Asp. I want to thank him and his team for a great experience. I have to get my left knee surgery done too, but I am not as concerned because of the experience I had. Dr. Asp and his team are the best!

Thank you to Dr. Asp for two reverse total shoulder surgeries, following two different falls almost five years apart. Dr. Asp listened and was happy to explain the complex procedure. The fact that two completely different accidents led to the same surgery twice, was a shock and quite traumatizing. After beginning PT following the 2nd surgery, I was in excruciating pain and it was clear that my body needed more time to heal more before being asked to move through PT. Dr. Asp listened and the added time between surgery and PT made a world of difference. I’m so grateful for having a surgeon who realizes that the patient’s instincts must be taken seriously.

Dr. Asp, his staff, and all nurses and PT at the EXCEL Program recovery suites were fantastic. I had a right hip replacement with the anterior approach. I was cautiously walking well, right out of the gate, from the surgery center and at the Excel recovery suite. I am an outdoors person and am three weeks out of surgery. I am walking well and already starting to do outdoorsy things I haven’t been able too for a long time.
This may be an early review with my surgery occurring only three weeks ago, so will add another review on my one year anniversary of having my right hip replaced.

Dr. Asp, Sarah Docken PA-C, and the rest of his team have treated my knees for over 10 years. He has always treated with the utmost and sincere care over the years. In August 2020, it was time to pursue a full knee replacement through the Excel program. My knee replacement surgery was a great success and I am pain free for the first time in years. Everyone from Dr. Asp, Sarah Docken, Maple Grove ASC staff, EXCEL nurses and the physical therapy staff in Burnsville have been instrumental in my successful knee replacement surgery and recovery. I look forward to returning to an active lifestyle soon.

Dr. Asp knew I had seen two other providers and waited over a year to get a total hip replacement. He said, “I can do that in 10 days to 2 weeks.” I was into one of the hospitals he works as two weeks later. It was so successful, I only used a walker while in the hospital and a couple days at home. I was on the floor with my kids, cleaning the cat box, etc. within 3 weeks. I’m SO VERY THANKFUL I picked him out of the blue and he was so willing and on top of everything. He did a tremendous job!

THIS doctor is the REAL DEAL. No “snake oil promises”, Dr. Asp gives you the entire truth and does the VERY BEST WORK. No long waits, no rushing out the door (or worse has his hand on the doorknob when talking to you). He takes time to answer questions, his staff is cheerful and accommodating. NOT TO MENTION THE STAFF AT THE MAPLE GROVE SURGERY CENTER IS THE BOMB!! I had one knee replaced by a doctor who retired by the time I needed the other one done. I selected a surgeon that was recommended by my PCP and had my knee replaced. For 2 years, I was plagued with pain, and it steadily got worse. Two other doctors said they wouldn’t touch it because they didn’t do the original surgery. He looked at everything it might possibly be and suggested arthroscopy that he has had much success with. (God, I hope I spelled that right). Anyhow, 2 days afterwards, I was walking with no pain, no cane, and did not even need drugs for pain, Tylenol is all I used. I must HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH HIM. He under-promises, and OVER delivers. He is caring, efficient, and highly skilled! He is not a salesman, he is a surgeon who is gifted and treats his patients as he would want to be treated.

I was having extreme pain in my left shoulder a year ago so I met Dr. Asp for a consultation. He took x-rays and they showed bone on bone in my left shoulder. I scheduled surgery with Dr. Asp for a shoulder replacement on May 2, 2019. The care and expertise I experienced with Dr. Asp and his staff was exceptional! Dr. Asp did a fantastic job on my shoulder! Today I had my one year follow-up with Dr. Asp and I am happy to report that my implant looks perfect and more importantly I am pain free! I would highly recommend Dr. Asp!

My Twin Cities Orthopedics journey took me out of the woods and tasks I love and back again to fully enjoying my outdoor activity. Shoulder pain first struck as I was using a pole saw to trim trees. As pain grew worse, I sought relief and solutions from Dr. Jonathan Asp at TCO in Maple Grove. Less invasive approaches including cortisone injections were used, but replacement surgery was needed. Surgery went well and after physical therapy, exercise at the YMCA and continued monitoring, I was pain free and back to doing everything I love, including splitting wood for the cabin’s wood stove. I highly recommend TCO and Dr. Asp to those living with chronic joint pain.

On Christmas Day in 2011, I stumbled on the stairs and broke my ankle. Dr. Asp performed surgery a few days later. It was so frustrating to not be able to walk or drive, and it made my job (teaching) and taking care of my then five-year-old son difficult. Since that time, my ankle has fully recovered, and I can now enjoy really great activities like hiking and zip-lining in the jungle in Guatemala. I can keep up with my now twelve-year-old son’s activities, and I can be on my feet all day with a great group of students.

I had been seeing Dr. Asp for a good amount of time (15+ years) in which I was receiving injections. As mentioned, this went on for quite a long period of time. I did the injections as I was not mentally ready/prepared for the replacement. Finally, in the beginning of 2017, I had made the decision to begin the total knee replacement because I really couldn’t stand the constant pain. I scheduled my first replacement on my right knee (the worst of the two) and became totally ready.
March came, I was anxious for the pain to be removed and ready for strenuous rehab and therapy to get up and about. I hit a snag in the therapy when I couldn’t get beyond the 80 degree bend due to a build-up of scar tissue. So a manipulation procedure was suggested and performed by Dr. Asp. Days later, I was pedaling full motion on the bike and my bend had increased to 105 degrees with continued physical therapy (Courtney was amazing). My bend was nearing 120 degrees and my straightening was near 0 degrees.
With all this happening, I knew I could go through another surgery to have my left knee repaired and through the skillful hands of Dr. Asp and his team (and the grace of god) I am happy to say that I am totally pain free and walking without any limitations and much to the delight of my wife, Lisa. Thank you Dr. Asp and the entire team at TCO. I am always quick to call out your names to refer people.
Thank you and best regards,
John M.

Dr. Asp has made such a difference in my quality of life. He performed a total knee replacement in November 2016 and replaced my hip in November 2017, both done at North Memorial Robbinsdale. Prior to surgery, I was changing my life to adapt to bad joints. He encouraged me by saying, “Let’s start getting things fixed, you’re too young not to.” I did and what a blessing. No more pain pills or canes. I’m walking normally and enjoying life. Dr. Asp’s knowledge and skill is a gift, but his positive attitude instills confidence to take that leap of faith!

I presented to Dr. Asp with a dislocated shoulder and subsequent diagnosis of 3 rotator cuff tendon full thickness tests. The obvious solution was surgery. This was performed by Dr. Asp on a Wednesday morning at 6:30 am and I was home recovering by 9:30 that same morning. This was a ‘scary’ diagnosis to have been given, but I can say without any degree of hesitation that I felt very comfortable and confident with Dr. Asp and his team, all the way from pre-op to the post operative appointment. He is a very gifted physician to whom many skills have been given. I am very grateful to have been in such capable hands. I will refer anybody to Dr. Asp and the team at TCO.

Everything went great! The surgery went fast and all the nurses were good with me. They checked on me all the time to see if I needed anything. I spent the night in rehab and went for a 2 a.m. walk with the nurse. The next day everyone came to see me about my hip and gave me tips about what to do and what not to do. I went home that day and was already healing well. The nurses are great and always help if you need it. You all keep up the good work and thank you for everything!
Out of fear of surgery and it not going well I put off a total hip replacement (due to arthritis) for at least five years; enduring extreme pain and giving up all the activities I loved to participate in. I finally could not deny that I needed to bite the bullet and have the operation. Dr. Asp listened to me and compassionately told me I had nothing to fear, all would go well. And it did! Dr. Asp’s confidence and remarkable skills along with the competent and caring staff at Maple Grove Hospital and clinic made it possible for me to regain my ability to walk ( it’s almost like flying) again and I feel like a new person. I will definitely return for any other replacement surgeries to Dr. Asp as I now have confidence in his ability to get the job done correctly and his choices of a great team to make it a total winning package. I am so very grateful. Thank you so much!

Dr. Asp operated on my wife’s shoulder and also replaced her hip. After talking to him and seeing my wife’s results I knew that I wanted him to replace my knees. The first one was done on December 8, 2015 and I was walking without a walker or a cane in less than two weeks after surgery. I felt so good about the experience that I made an appointment to have the second knee done at my last checkup for the first one. The second knee was replaced on February 25th, 2016. Same results as the first one. I am walking pain free for the first time in years and the scars are a work of art. After seeing the results that friends had after their surgery I consider myself very fortunate to have Dr. Asp as my surgeon. Thanks again Dr. Asp for your concerns and dedication to your craft. You are the best, which is why I drove 400 miles to get to you.

On December 31, 2015, Dr. Asp replaced my right knee. I have osteoarthritis and have had many procedures done including a total hip replacement. The thing that sets Dr. Asp apart from my previous doctors is that he took the time to listen to me as I explained how I was feeling. I felt that we were a team making the decisions for my care. The procedure went perfectly and I am ahead of schedule with my recovery. My care has been exceptional from Dr. Asp to Maple Grove Hospital to Twin Cities Orthopedics Physical Therapy.

On December 29, 2015 Dr. Asp replaced my left knee and six weeks later I am walking without my cane and riding my bike three miles a day. After twenty years of progressing pain and immobility I am excited to get back to work. Dr. Asp in my opinion is a wonderful surgeon and I am very happy with my decision. I recommend Dr. Asp and the staff to anyone who needs help.

Dr. Asp re-attached my pectoralis major tendon on July 17th and 20 weeks later I am back to almost 100% activity again. I want to thank Dr. Asp for his professionalism and candor in both the surgery and follow-up. Thank you for helping me get my life back!!!!!

“I have received great care from Dr. Asp and all the staff at TCO and I recommend them to everyone I talk to who needs surgery,” said Karen S. (pictured), a patient of Jonathan Asp, MD. Karen’s first experience with Twin Cities Orthopedics was a visit with Dr. Asp to discuss her knee pain. After a pair of cortisone shots provided only temporary relief, Karen decided to have both of her knees replaced. Karen kept to the recommended post-surgery exercise program and said that since the surgery, her “knees have been just great.” More recently, Karen began to experience pain in both of her shoulders. Over a thirteen month period, she had both of her shoulders replaced by Dr. Asp. Two weeks after her first shoulder surgery, she was able to raise her arm straight up Shortly thereafter, Karen said she “used her snow blower and cleaned my driveway and sidewalk.” Karen said she is grateful for the technology advances in joint replacement surgery, as it enables her “to continue to live alone in my own house!”

“I underwent right total knee surgery (with Dr. Asp). Two months and eight days later, I am walking without the horrible pain I was enduring prior to my surgery,” said Val.”I am grateful for my orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Jonathan Asp, and the surgical team who performed my surgery; and to all of my physical and occupational therapists who encouraged me during all of the exercises to get me back to my present status, as a functioning and healthy 72-year-old adult female.”

Jill M. (pictured on right) had an excellent experience from start to finish at TCO Plymouth, where she saw Jonathan Asp, MD (pictured on left) for her bothersome knee.”From the moment I walked into the office and met the front desk woman, I had a great time,” she said. “The nurse who roomed me was kind, friendly and put me at ease,” she said. She also appreciated how knowledgeable and helpful both the Physician Assistant and x-ray techs were. Upon learning that her knee injury was not serious, Jill was elated and thanked Dr. Asp, who she described as “proficient, timely, kind and funny.” She said her visit was “by far the best office experience I have ever had” and “highly recommends the clinic!”

“My whole family comes to Twin Cities Orthopedics,” said Jean G., of Maple Grove, who has referred her children, mother and extended family to the group. After a total knee replacement and a shoulder injury, Jean has become familiar with Jonathan Asp, MD and the physical therapists at Twin Cities Orthopedics Maple Grove. “I have been very impressed with all the doctors and therapists,” she said, “I prefer to come here for my therapy.” Jean added that her shoulder is fully healed and her knee is “getting better each day.”

Will R., of Brooklyn Center, has had both of his knees replaced by Jonathan Asp, MD over the past 2 years. His mobility has greatly improved and he has been able to return to work without restrictions. Will explains that having the first knee replacement procedure helped better prepare him for what to expect the second time around. He is also helping prepare friends he has referred to Dr. Asp for similar procedures “I’ve recommended Dr. Asp and Twin Cities Orthopedics to many friends who need knee surgeries,” he said. “I am so happy with the operation, the hospital care (North Memorial) and especially the therapy with Twin Cities Orthopedics. It made the whole procedure very routine.”
